As you drive down Main Street, you might be wondering where the centre is before you see our wind turbine high above the landscape. Naturally screened from the road and an almost organic part of the landscape is the Joggins Fossil Centre. As you round the bend on the driveway you will be awestruck by the stunning architecture of the building and the view beyond.

Ottawa House By-The-Sea Museum, located just 3 miles from downtown Parrsboro, was once owned by Sir Charles Tupper, MD, a distinguished Nova Scotian politician who was Prime Minister of Canada for 16 days in 1896. Ottawa House is open as a museum and has displays on shipbuilding, early education and the Victorian Era. From the veranda of Ottawa House you see Partridge Island, which is now joined to the mainland.

Displays of mining equipment, tours of the wash house and lamp cabin are just a few of the things that one can experience at the Tour a Mine, Springhill Miners’ Museum. Springhill thrived as a forestry and farming community until the 1830’s when coal was discovered in massive quantities. It didn’t take long for the first coal mine to open, setting the stages for a glorious and often tragic tradition.
