'Lost at Sea' Memorial
The Age of Sail Heritage Centre remembers those lost at sea. Stories of the lives lost at sea can be found at the museum as this was something that affected every family on the shore. Ask our Curator about some of the stories and see exhibits that speak of the mystery and tragedies of the sea, like the Mary Celeste, the Cumberland Queen and the Western Head.
"To Those Who Served"
One of our exhibits is dedicated to the local men and woman who served. The armed forces were a very important part of the community. As the shipbuilding era slowed the forces were one of a few options for jobs. The Wagstaff and Hatfield Shipyard were even commissioned to build 12 minesweepers in WWII. One of WWI’s first Canadian recipient of the Victorian Cross was John “Chipman” Kerr a native of Fox River. In June a free luncheon is provided to service personal past and present by the museum to honor our service personal as our way of saying Thanks.
The Museum also has a memorial garden where plants and flowers have been donated on behalf of loved ones. Plaques can be purchased to be displayed on the block walls with proceeds helping to pay for plants and maintenance of the garden.
